Scriptural basis for the Scout Law 2 Timothy 2:3-4 (NKJV)You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. (NIV) Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs—he wants to please his commanding officer. Trustworthy – 1 Timothy 1:15 (NKJV) This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. (NIV) Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. Loyal - John 11:16 (NKJV) Then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with Him.” (NIV) Then Thomas (called Didymus) said to the rest of the disciples, "Let us also go, that we may die with him." Helpful – Ephesians 4:29 (NKJV) Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. (NIV) Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Friendly – John 15:13 (NKJV) Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. (NIV) Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. Courteous – 1 Peter 3:8 (NKJV) Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; (NIV) Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. Kind – 1 Thessalonians 5:15 (NKJV) See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all. (NIV) Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else. Obedient – Philippians 2:8 (NKJV) And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. (NIV) And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross! Cheerful – Proverbs 15:30 (NKJV) The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, And a good report makes the bones healthy.(NIV) A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones. Thrifty – Genesis 2:15 (NKJV) Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. (NIV) The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. Brave – 1 Corinthians 16:13 (NKJV) Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. (NIV) Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. Clean – Hebrew 9:22 (NKJV) And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission. (NIV) In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. Reverent – Hebrew 5:7 (NKJV) who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, (NIV) During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.
